Dear Hon.--------------------------------------

As a citizen who favors the advancement of medical procedures that alleviate suffering of the seriously ill, I urge you to support H.R. 1782, "The Medical Use of Marijuana Act" introduced by Rep. Barney Frank on June 4, 1997, which allows physicians to legally prescribe marijuana to seriously ill patients where state law allows them to do so.

H.R. 1782 permits states to legally implement different systems of growing and distributing medical marijuana under state law. The legislation would also require marijuana be made available for FDA approved research, thus encouraging much needed scientific enquiry into this substance. It also allows for Americans to make their own decisions within their home states whether marijuana should be legal for medical use.

The legalization of this substance for medical uses has already been approved in two states, and I urge you to allow all states to be able to choose for themselves on this issue, by supporting H.R. 1782.
